Small and Large at the Same Time

Community in the local church can be as small as two or as large as 1,000’s. It can meet anywhere, parks, church buildings, homes, coffee shops, or schools. Age in this community is diverse too. Young and old, married and single are all found in the local church community. The one thing everyone has in common is that they have had an encounter with a living Savior and their lives have been forever changed.

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

Hebrews 10:24,25

Recently, I attended a gathering of the local church in Oregon City. It was on a Saturday and for women only. I went not knowing anyone except the guest speaker. Though it was a bit out of my comfort zone to go alone, I was quickly put at ease because I was meeting with a community of the local church that I just hadn’t met yet…sort of like meeting relatives for the first time!

Before I knew it, I was surrounded by conversations of support, encouragement, prayer requests and even accountability to help me grow in my faith. We were united because of Jesus and the work He had done and was still doing in our lives. Our goal was to grow closer to God and look more like Jesus each day.
