Church picnics, shared meals after church and potlucks are returning to the local church community. It’s a beautiful sight to see people breaking bread together and fellowshipping. There seems to be a new appreciation for the things we did without during the days of COVID.
These are gatherings that we have enjoyed over the years in the church “building”, but what if we started bringing people to the church potlucks? Consider it a “Friends Day”. Or even better, what if we started bringing church potlucks to our neighbors? I think we would be surprised with the receptivity.
With loneliness at an all-time high, there has also been a rise on social media to put community groups together. It is becoming more common to see meet up groups, bunco games and neighborhood BBQ’s planned on neighborhood chit chat groups. Our neighbors are starving for community, for belonging, for relationships and we are the ones that have the best community to offer…the local church.
Consider this a challenge. Plan a potluck, or BBQ, or picnic and invite the neighbors on your street. Not your comfort zone? Don’t plan it alone. Ask someone in your church community to plan it with you. In fact, you could even make it a small group endeavor. Have some friends from church help you reach your street by demonstrating the love of Jesus through a meal.
