Does anything in this video ring true for you? What is challenging about it?
Sometimes, as Christians living in America, we get the American dream mixed in as part of our Christian faith. A house, a car, and a good paying job feel like things that God would want us to have. Closer examination would help us see that it would be more correct to state “a house, a car or a good paying job are lent to me by God for His purposes.’
As we continue to think about following Christ in our relationships and community, it’s good to remember the following:
- Biblical hospitality is making space for the stranger out of an evangelist heart. It is not entertaining guests.
- When we follow Christ we don’t “own” anything anymore. We become stewards of God’s things.
- The influence of individualism has made it’s way into the church of America. It affects our thoughts on if, when and how we should show hospitality.
- Being hospitable is gospel centered. They go hand in hand. Am I able to articulate the entire gospel? Can I say more than “Jesus died for my sins.”?
