Interdependent, Relational and Better Together

Just a few years ago, neighbors were more likely to see each other more often than they do now. But in the last few years we have been told everything from, “STAY HOME AND SAVE LIVES!” to “If you’re going to come out, keep a “safe” distance from your neighbor.” It almost felt wrong to be neighborly. There seemed to be a feeling of coming close would actually be unloving.

Our culture began to magnify personal independence to the point of detriment of our mental health. Needing someone’s help was keeping neighbors thinking that they were being a bother if they were to reach out for help. The truth was that God has created us interdependent, relational, and better together. It has been His plan from the beginning for us to have relationship with Him AND our neighbors.

Since were created intentionally relational, it is impossible to keep God’s greatest commandment:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

Matthew 22:37

without keeping the second that is like it:

“Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Matthew 22:39

Until we return to be interdependent with our neighbors again, we must do everything possible to bring reminders or prompts for being relational. It’s almost to the point of taking everything you could do faster, easier and sometimes “better” and do the opposite. We need Christians to start modeling to new believers as well as unbelievers what it looks like to be neighborly, to be relational and to be interdependent.

MFH is for the purpose of equipping believers to establish kingdom community wherever they go. Starting with the neighbors on your street, to people in your local community, to who you engage with in your very own place of worship. However, that purpose cannot be realized without time spent in prayer. Without the praying, (talking as well as listening) to God, all our best efforts with fall short of God’s plan.

The app BLESSEVERYHOME.COM that is at the top of this page, is a very helpful tool to remind us not only TO pray for our neighbors but reminds us of their names and there is even a place you can make notes of how you are praying for a neighbor. This note taking can even encourage you with the recording of answers to those prayers. The important thing to remember is TO PRAY. If we go in our own strength or follow our emotions, we fail with God’s plan of being relational with Him AND relational with others.

If the BLESSEVERYHOME.COM is not a fit for you, please share in the comment section below a way that is helping you remember to pray for your neighbors.
